Updates on media policy and legislation
Email your MP: Tell them to protect Leveson reforms and raise press standards
The Government has announced plans to undermine the Leveson system of independent press regulation, by repealing the legislation known as “section 40” in the King’s Speech.
Section 40 underpins independent press regulation and is critical to upholding the rights of the public, protecting people from lies, intrusion and other abuses in the press, and ensuring that newspapers can defend themselves from wealthy litigants.
Parliament has a history of standing up to the Government on this issue, and we encourage all politicians of integrity to be prepared to take a stand again.
To help us fight back, please consider writing to your MP today.
